Book Club or Cook Club?

My dream to start a book club came to fruition on Thursday night. I successfully combined friends from several groups to partake in a delicious meal and discussion. I served my take on Butternut Squash Ravioli {super yummy and easy} and my favorite salad of artichokes, kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers. Thanks to the girls for bringing apps, desserts and a strongly spiked apple cider. Christin, I had two slices of your chocolate coffee cake as a late night snack and I don't regret it! And Carrie, you left your recipe for the cider on my kitchen counter {might have to be posted}! Some members are convince they joined a cooking club, not a book club ...

We read If Andy Warhol Had a Girlfriend, a super fast and girly read by Allison Pace. We chatted briefly about our favorite Andy Warhol quotes and who we thought would play each character in the movie. The book takes place in several different cities from {New York to London, Rome to Chicago, Santa Fe to Miami} and my favorite question came from Rachel."A place can really make your heart skip a beat, especially if you have to take a plane to get there"- Andy Warhol. Where would you go if you had a free plane trip anywhere in the world?

For me that is easy. I have my honeymoon on my mind and think I would give an arm and a leg to go to the South of France. Beaches, vineyards, casinos ... what more can a girl ask for!

So what's up next? The vote is neck and neck between The Help and Bobby and Jackie. I have a feeling we will end up reading both at some point. We've also tossed around the idea of a brunch meeting. Bring on the Bloody Mary's!

  2. Just stumbled across your blog when I was looking for new Chicago blogs. Love the sound of this book and am downloading onto my iPad right now!

I LOVED The Help and my old book club had a great discussion about it. It's not a light book though.
